Saints crashed to defeat at Super League's bottom-placed club Castleford Tigers.
The 30-24 loss is the FIFTH defeat of the season for Daniel Anderson's men in just 10 games, placing them outside the play-off spots.

Disgraced sprinter Dwain Chambers, who has joined Castleford on a month's loan spell, watched from the stands.

The 30-year-old Londoner was treated to a compelling game and was left hugely impressed as the players he has spent the past week training with outscored the Challenge Cup holders by six tries to four.

Chambers, who only picked up a rugby ball for the first time earlier this week, said: ''That was the first time I'd watched a live rugby game.

''I've watched the World Cup but I've flicked over because it has never really interested me But it was great to see how the wingers move around because that's the position I'll be playing in.

''I'm only focusing on what the wingers do because if I can find a gap then that's where my speed will prove to be my greatest asset.

''I have all the ability but I need to prove that I can last 80 minutes. I'm still in my early stages but I'll be ready.''

Inspired by a scintillating display from 18-year-old loose forward Joe Westerman - who touched down twice - the Tigers claimed the winning score in the closing stages when Luke Dorn pounced on an horrendous error from Saints full-back Paul Wellens.

St Helens have now lost four of their last five outings and coach Daniel Anderson admitted: ''They performed, we didn't and that's the bottom line.''
