Saints away day
Lady Luck finally deserted Saints' coach Daniel Anderson when the draw for the quarter finals of the Carnegie Challenge Cup was made on Monday night.
The holders were paired with Hull KR at Craven Park – ending a run of nine successive home ties for the Aussie boss since he took over the coaching reins in May 2005.
His first tie was the 75-0 drubbing of Wigan Warriors on June 26 and other clubs subsequently put to the sword at Knowsley Road were Doncaster, Bradford Bulls, Catalans Dragons, Batley Bulldogs, Rochdale Hornets and Warrington Wolves twice and London Skolars.
Saints will also need no reminding that they will be returning to the scene of their defeat on the opening day of engage Super League X111 – one of only five setbacks suffered this season - and will face a hostile, parochial Humberside crowd who will be baying for blood.
Anderson said: "There were a number of potentially nasty away ties and Hull KR was one of them.
"We lost 24-22 on our last visit in February, which as far as I'm concerned is now history, but all four ties look pretty intriguing and it looks like the winner will be the game of Rugby League."
The remainder of the draw – ties to be played on the weekend of May 31-June 1 – is: Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors, Bradford Bulls v Hull, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats v Oldham.
