Kyle Eastmond is close to committing his immediate future to Saints by signing an improved contract.
The Reporter understands an offer is already on the table but due to the Four Nations tournament, in which 20-year-old Eastmond emerged as a star in the making, talks were put on the back burner.
Now they are set to resume and hopefully will be resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.
Speaking on the eve of England's Four National Final clash against Australia at Elland Road, Leeds, the Oldham-born utility back, who has been at St Helens since he was 13, revealed: "We are hoping to get something sorted out shortly.
"I just want to get it done and dusted and get on with my career."
Eastmond, who made his international debut as a substitute against France in the opening match of the Four Nations tournament, added: "To me, St Helens are the best club in the world. Why wouldn't you want to play for them?"
He is widely tipped to take over the scrum half role from the mercurial Sean Long who has moved to Hull FC and ended the domestic season by scoring all Saints' points in their 18-10 Grand Final defeat to Leeds Rhinos at Old Trafford in early October.
"It has been a great year for me and one I didn't really expect," said Eastmond, whose first team appearances in 2009 were restricted by injury.
His agent, former Wigan and Great Britain legend Martin Offiah. confirmed talks had been delayed by the internationals and while he hoped matter would be sorted out stressed nothing had yet been agreed.
