A former plumber turned long-serving Ravenhead vicar is to leave the parish after more than two decades of service.
Rev Roy Doran will soon deliver his final sermon at St John the Evangelist, Ravenhead, to take up a new post at St John's Church in Knotty Ash.

He will take up his new post in late February 2009.

During Rev Doran's time at Ravenhead, part of th
e Eccleston team ministry, he has overseen major developments. St John's Centre is now a thriving expression of the church and community working together.

He said: "It is a tremendous community with many people showing a real commitment to following Christ. But I know that this community is more than its vicar and has a strong future."

Archdeacon Ricky Panter added: "The Diocese is delighted that Rev Doran is coming to St John Knotty Ash. It has been a long and complex process and this appointment marks the start of a positive future for the church and community."

Rev Doran is married to Sue and they have two grown up children and three grandchildren. Before receiving the call to ordination, he owned a plumbing business in Southport.

As well as being vicar at St John, Rev Doran also is Chaplain to the RAF Association and shares in the ministry to local hospitals.
