FIVE St Helens schoolboys have been praised after their quick-thinking helped save a stricken passer-by.
The lads, all pupils at Cowley Language College's Broadway site, were walking home from school when they came across a man lying unconscious in the street.
All five year 11 pupils immediately sprung into action, putting the man in the recovery position, checking his airway was clear and dialling 999.
The group - Chris Foster, Scott Callery, Rhys Flynn, Gary Foster (no relation) - also waited with the man until ambulance crews arrived and rushed him to Whiston Hospital.
Jenny Henstock, head of year 11, said: "They just came across this man on their way back from school and knew immediately what needed to be done.
"People hear lots of negative stories about teenagers so these deserve to praised. They will certainly be getting some form of recognition by the school but I think it is important the wider community knows about them as well."
