A teenager was rescued after a kitchen fire at her home in St Helens.
The 18-year-old was trapped upstairs after smoke engulfed her property on Fir Street, Thatto Heath, shortly after midnight on Friday (August 29).

When firefighters arrived she was shouting for help through an upstairs window.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus dashed in and led her to safety.
She was suffering from shock and smoke inhalation and was taken to Whiston Hospital.

The fire was started when a pan which had been left on the oven hob, overheated and caused the thick black smoke.

Watch manager Phil Lindley said: "There were smoke alarms but the battery had been removed.

"I would urge anyone who needs smoke alarms or need them repairing to call the fire service on 0800 7315938."
