A scheme to boost St Helens' economic performance has helped lure £16.5m worth of business to the town.
The Business Winning Business project is run by St Helens Chamber and was launched more than two years ago.

Since then bosses say it has helped more than 1,000 small firms sharpen their competitive advantage over companies outside the borough.

Helen Graham, from St Helens Chamber, said: "The aim of Business Winning Business is to give companies the tools to become self sufficient and provide them with the confidence, skills and knowledge to grow and progress.

"Everything we offer is free of charge, all we ask from the company is their time. As a company grows and becomes more successful the whole community can feel the benefit through expansion, increased job security, better prospects and more investment."

Businesses can get help in a variety of ways including support through the tendering process, use of technology, staff training, and winning larger contracts from regional and national buyer.

Organisers also credit the scheme for increasing the number of companies using the latest technology by paying software fees for the first year and funding training.

Mrs Graham added: "The project has been an unprecedented success and we are delighted by the response we've had and the business it has generated for St Helens".
