A pregnant woman who threatened to a bite off a police officer's nose in a drunken rage could be jailed.
Katherine Williams, of Windle Hall Drive, Eccleston, appeared before St Helens Magistrates on Wednesday (July 9).

The court heard that the 23-year-old, who is three months pregnant, assaulted two officers as they tried to arrest her on Smithfield Street.

Jane Stacey, prosecuting, said: "She had been causing a disturbance on Tuesday afternoon (July 8). Officers were called to the scene and saw her staggering around screaming.

"PC Bentham, who knows her from previous incidents, tried to calm her down and detain her. Not only did she give a false name she threatened to bite his nose off."

He put her arm behind her back to prevent her from attacking him. PC David Bentham and PC Neil Forsyth managed to put her in the caged part at the back of the police van.

She then kicked the cage door and it slammed into Sgt Forsyth's face, seconds later she spat at both officers.

Ms Stacey said: "Williams started to hurl abuse and insulted one of them because he was Irish and because of the way he looked."

In interview she admitted her actions and said she was 'blind drunk'. She had originally entered Smithfield Street because she wanted to fight with her partner's ex-girlfriend.

Paul Potter, defending, said: "She is a young woman who has had a troubled life. She realises that she has to change her ways and she has been to the Lighthouse Project in an effort to stop smoking so much cannabis.

"She has a new boyfriend and now she is pregnant she really wants to sort herself out."

Williams has also been charged with theft and assault from a previous incident. They have yet to be heard and she denies both charges.

She will next appear in court on July 31 and has been released on conditional bail. She has been tagged and must obey a curfew order where she must stay at Windle Hall Drive between 7pm and 7am every night.
