Thousands of homes and businesses went without power after a blackout hit large parts of St Helens.
The electricity supply to Rainhill, Prescot, Whiston and some parts of Knowsley was affected on Thursday afternoon (November 13).

It lasted around 45 minutes and caused chaos.

Some residents contacted the fire services when the electricity was switched back on.

Their burglar and smoke alarms had been triggered by the disruption and they thought their house was on fire.

It is unclear why the electricity supply suddenly went down.
