ST Helens' world-famous pie shop is selling off its headquarters as it feels the strain of the credit crunch.
John Pimblett has confirmed that he is looking for a buyer to purchase his College Street bakery in a bid to free up some much needed cash.
As the price of flour shoots up by £200 in the space of a year, he is preparing his pie shops to fight the squeeze of the nation's economical crisis.
A four-page glossy brochure is being distributed by Manchester-based estate agents, Eddisons advertising the historic factory.
Mr Pimblett said: "We can confirm it is business as usual but like many companies, we have been affected by the credit crunch and the rising cost of food.
"Many of our main ingredients - flour, milk, eggs - are becoming more and more expensive.
"We are going to sell off the bakery but lease it back from the property investors who buy it. That way we can put the extra revenue straight back into the business and continue as normal."
He remains adamant that there are no plans to move headquarters or make cuts to the business.
By taking this action now he hopes his family business - passed down through three generations - can weather the storm.
John Pimblett & Sons Ltd was founded in 1921 by John and Mary Pimblett. For decades it has been the pie shop of St Helens, rivalled only by the likes of Burchall's pies.
John ensures that the only recipes used are those passed from his grandparents who used to put that extra something into their fresh mincemeat.
The staff at the stores use fresh ingredients for their creations, varying from meat and potato pies, mince pies and novelty cakes and biscuits.
The 12 shops stretch from Widnes through St Helens and out to Rainford.
