A woman and her daughter had a lucky escape after a high-speed collision with a lorry.
They were carried out of the wreckage on spinal boards, at the junction of Mill Lane and the Rainford by-pass, on Tuesday morning (August 26).

The 44-year-old and her 14-year-old daughter suffered back and abdominal injuries and were rushed to Whiston Hospital. It is believed their condition is not critical.

They had been travelling towards St Helens when they collided with the HGV which was crossing the carriageway at the time. The driver of the lorry suffered arm injuries.

Air ambulance, paramedics, firefighters and police were in attendance and the road was closed between Pasture Lane and the East Lancs while the debris was cleared.

Geoffrey Farmer, who lives nearby, saw the aftermath of the crash.
He said: "It was pretty shocking and the front of the car was destroyed.

"There seems to be a crash happening there at least once a month, it is one of the main roads onto the industrial estate so there are lots of turning vehicles which causes problems."
