More than 30 firefighters tackled a massive blaze in Sutton.
The fire ripped through a disused unit on Penlake industrial estate in Reginald Road at 7.30pm on Wednesday (June 18).

Crews took almost seven hours to control the flames, which totally destroyed the unit.

They struggled to extinguish the blaze because it was on the first floor. At one point the intensity of the fire caused the entire roof to collapse.

Shortly after the fire, gas bottles were discovered in the debris, hampering firecrew's efforts to tackle the flames.

It's the second blaze on the estate in less than 24 hours. Firefighters were called out after a pile of tyres was set alight.

Firefighters have been called out to the industrial units, most of which are now derelict, several times in the last few weeks.

Fire chiefs suspect arsonists are behind the blaze.

Watch manager Mark Jones said: "The fire was intense and it needed water from an appliance in the air to finally put it out.

"The police and the arson reduction team have also been made aware of the situation."

Detectives are appealing for information, any witnesses should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
