A man was rushed to hospital after collapsing by the side of Sankey Canal in St Helens.
It is believed the 33-year-old had been under the influence of drugs when he passed out by the water behind the World of Glass on Chalon Way.

Firefighters had to clamber down the steep banks and carry him up to waiting paramedics.

His two friends were with him when he passed out and contacted the emergency services on Wednesday afternoon (November 12).

He did not fully regain consciousness and was taken to Whiston Hospital.
