Eighties heart throb Jason Donovan was the surprise special guest at St Helens and Whiston hospital's annual award ceremony.
The Aussie popstar turned up at St Helens and Knowsley Trust's annual presentation evening on Friday (May 9).
Nurses, doctors and staff from Whiston and St Helens hospitals jived away to his memorable hits as they received recognition for their de
dication over the past year.
He performed all time favourites; Sealed with a Kiss, Too Many Broken Hearts and Any Dream Will Do.
The event, at Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre, was attended by more than 700 people, making it the biggest NHS awards ceremony to be held by an acute trust in the country.
Other special guests included; comedian Stan Boardman; This Morning star John Scott; Radio City presenter Kev Seed and ITV Granada reporter Andy Bonner.
The winners were:
Medical Care Group Award – Diabetes
Surgical Care Group Award – Ear Nose Throat department
Clinical Support Group Award – Out-Patients, Stephenson House
Non-Clinical Support Group Award – Patient Booking Services
Team of the Year Award – Ward G4
Employee of the Year Award – Barbara Ashall, upper GI nurse specialist
People's Choice Award – Lilac Centre
Outstanding Contribution – Bertha Hayes – for her incredible 50 plus years of voluntary work at St Helens Hospital.
Trust chief executive Ann Marr said: "This was a fantastic night for our staff and a great way for us to show how much we value their hard work and commitment. We are very grateful to Jason Donovan and all of our special guests for giving their time for free to join us."
