Fitness fanatics will be stepping up their training after the dates for Rainford's Winter Duathlon series were announced.
Three combined cycling and running races will take place in Rainford this winter - on December 6, January 10 and February 14.

Each event, run by local firm The Endurance Coach Ltd, will see a mixed field of competitors - from novices to elite athl
etes - complete a three-mile run before cycling a 10-mile time trial and then finishing with another three-mile run.

The events are informal and include a break between each of the disciplines to allow competitors to change clothing and combat the cold weather during the cycling leg.

The now legendary Cake Man will also be on hand at the end of the race armed with only a boot full of home made cakes and a large pot of tea!

Each gruelling event will act as a warm up for the North West Duathlon Championships in March and will be run according to British Triathlon Federation guidelines.

Contestants should familiarise themselves with the rules at www.britishtriathlon.org before the event, especially if they are a novice to duathlon competition.

Hard shell helmets are compulsory and slipstreaming is not allowed during the cycle section.
