A father of three killed a six-year-old girl in a hit and run after a drinking session in Prescot.
Ross Robinson was jailed for nine years after his vehicle mounted a pavement and plouged into Demi Leigh Royle.

The 24-year-old then fled the scene leaving little Demi dying by the roadside.

Father-of-three Robinson was found by police the foll
owing morning at his home in Huyton.

Robinson, who pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving,
admitted drinking one pint at the first pub, four pints at the second pub and two bottles of beer after he got home after fleeing the scene.

The court heard Robinson had drunk several pints in Fusilier pub in Prescot.

He was also banned from driving for 10 years after he admitted drinking five pints at two different pubs before speeding down the wrong side of part of a dual carriageway and going through a red light.

Demi Leigh Royle had been singing with the daughter of family friend Hannah Standley while walking along the pavement of Astley Road in Liverpool when the van mounted the curb and hit her at around 9.45pm on May 16.

Recorder of Liverpool Judge Henry Globe QC said Robinson's driving was ''appalling'' and abandoning the van was an aggravating factor.

During mitigation, Christopher Stables, defending, said: ''His (Robinson) attitude now is one of regret. The defendant accepts that his act of leaving was irresponsible and wrong.''

Judge Globe said the 35 days that Robinson had served in custody before the hearing would be taken off the sentence.
Robinson will also have to sit an extended driving test before he is allowed to drive after his ten year disqualification.
