Firefighters were called to Sherdley Park - after arsonists set fire to a 70ft tree.
Onlookers spotted the blaze in a wooded area near to Sutton High school at around 2pm last Friday (July 4) as organisers prepared for the start of the St Helens Festival.

Crews from Parr Stocks Road used a hose reel to tackle the flames but fear fire damage to the trunk could mean it has to be felled.
