Billinge schoolgirl Alexandra Taylor was so shocked by the images from the Haiti earthquake she decided she had to do something to help.
Alexandra, nine, a Chapel End Primary School pupil, will be walking from Wigan's DW Stadium to the Knowsley Road Stadium, in St Helens on March 13, a total of nine miles, a long distance for little legs like hers. But Alexandra is adamant she will do all she can to help the Haiti victims.
Alexandra of Powell Drive, said: "It was all my idea to do the walk, I will be going with my dad and my teacher from school, Mr Montrose.
"He started to get interested when I took my sponsor form into him and he just asked if he could do it with us.
"I saw the earthquake on the news and I asked my dad what could I do to help. I didn't want to really just sit there and watch what had happened and not do anything.
"I just didn't think there would ever be an earthquake and it made me sad watching the news so I have to help."
Alexandra already has £52 pledged to her for completing the walk and to prepare, she says she will be exercising.
Alexandra said: "I go walking with my grandma and grandad sometimes so I have done it before and I am going to start doing some exercises.
"My friends feel quite proud of me and they have started doing some exercises with me.
"They tell me to do laps of the playground."
Alexandra's former year four teacher at the Billinge school, Brian Montrose said: "I thought it was so wonderful that Alexandra has shown such initiative. I was really impressed with the thought behind it that I thought how can I not take part."
