SAINTS have refused to be drawn on further speculation linking Sean Long with a return to the club in a coaching capacity next season had any credence or not.
“It is our policy not to comment on anyone who is under contract to another club,” said a Saints spokesperson.
Scrum-half Long, who made 261 appearances during a glittering 13-year career at Knowsley Road, moved to Hull FC 18 months ago but his two-year deal end is due to expire at the end of the season.
There is also speculation that if Kyle Eastmond, currently under suspension following allegations of serious misconduct, is allowed to leave earlier than expected, then Long could be a ready-made replacement.
But it goes without saying that the Humbersiders would be reluctant to release one of their most experience players from his contract, especially after such a poor start to the new campaign.
