EX-Saints full-back Phil Veivers has been named as Salford City Reds’ new head coach.

The 47-year-old, who signed at Knowsley Road alongside Mal Meninga, steps up from the role of assistant to succeed his fellow countryman Matt Parish, who resigned for personal reasons.

n Bobbie Goulding has left his role as head coach for the French rugby league side.

The ex-St Helens scrum-half had been in charge of Les Bleus for three years.

Goulding offered to resign after his side lost to the England Knights last month.

n Kyle Eastmond is close to making his rugby union debut.

The 22-year-old has been injured and is leaving Saints at the end of the season.

Bath coach Brad Davies said the ex-St Helens ace was less than a fortnight away from resuming full training
