STEVE Prescott is Saints’ No.1 in every sense of the word.

The former full-back is first on a list of past and present players drawn up by the Past Players’ Association to recognise those who have pulled on the famous Red Vee jersey since the launch of the Super League era.

Each one will have their own special number, and as Steve wore the No.1 shirt in the first fixture following the switch to summer rugby – a fourth-round Challenge Cup triumph at Castleford Tigers on February 4, 1996 – it’s felt appropriate the sequence should start with him.

All the players will receive a special pennant containing their own number.

At the same time, the association would like to thank club historians, Alex Service and Bill Bates, for their painstaking assistance in drawing up the names.

n DANIEL Anderson, who helped Saints lift a plethora of trophies and award during his time as head coach at Knowsley Road from 2005 to 2008, will be in charge of the Exiles’ team for their two games against England this summer in the International Origin series.

The fixtures are to be played on Saturday, June 16, and Wednesday, July 4 – and one is expected to be staged at Langtree Park.

The appointment was due to be officially revealed at a St Helens press today (Wednesday).

But, apparently, Anderson leaked news of his new role when speaking to an Australian journalist Down Under at the weekend.

n SAINTS Under-20s extended their unbeaten start to the season to three matches with a 28-10 home triumph over Hull FC on Friday night.

Tries for the hosts came from Adam Swift, Mark Percival, Josh Jones, Danny Yates, Joe Greenwood and James Tilley. Percival also landed two goals.

n TWO members of Saints’ first-team squad, Carl Forster, 19, and 20-year-old Scott Hale, have been signed on dual registration deals with Co-operative Championship outfit Swinton Lions.

n THE Original Saints Supporters’ Club will be running a coach to Saints game against Bradford at Odsal .

It will leave the Black Bull Hotel, Knowsley Road, at 3pm ahead of a 5.15pm kick off. The fare is £10 for members and £11 for non-members.

The supporters’ club will also be running a coach to Warrington on Friday, March 30. The fare is £7 for members and £8 for non-members.
