IT is not beyond the realms of possibility that Saints could top Super League at the end of the regular campaign.

But the results of their next three fixtures will be instrumental in shaping whether that becomes a reality.

Only six points separate the top four, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Catalan Dragons and Saints, and with games to come against their nearest rivals anything is possible, setting the stage for an exciting grandstand finish in a bid to reach the Old Trafford Grand Final on October 6.

Saints face the first of three testing examinations on Friday night when they travel to third-placed Catalan - one spot above them in the table - and 34-32 winners in February at Langtree Park.

Acting had coach Mike Rush said: “At the end of the day, we now have three

big games coming up - against Catalan, Huddersfield Giants and Warrington

Wolves - and I cannot say at this moment in time whether we will finish top or in fourth spot.

“It all depends on our performance in the next three games and I am not going to be disrespectful to our rivals by saying we have a God given right to win these games, but what we have to do is play as well as we can and hope we achieve the right result.

“The trip to France will present us with a tough hurdle because playing on a Friday night, instead of Saturday as is the norm in Perpignan, presents difficulties but we have had a week off to prepare.

“We didn’t enjoy that but have to accept it and will not travel to France tired, under prepared or without a rest.

“We have to make sure we do the job and then dust ourselves down on Saturday and prepare for the Huddersfield game which will no doubt have a little more spice now that Paul Anderson, one of our former players, will be in charge following Nathan Brown’s sudden departure on Monday.”

Scrum half Jonny Lomax, who missed the Widnes Vikings clash due to a rib injury, will return to the squad which will fly to Barcelona in Spain and then on to South of France on Thursday before jetting home on Saturday.

“Ideally, we would have liked to fly on Wednesday but that wasn’t possible,” said Rush.
