MIKE Rush was tight-lipped about the departure of future Saints coach Nathan Brown from Huddersfield Giants.
Saints’ caretaker coach admitted that the news was “a shock”, but insisted that his focus remained firmly on preparing his players for this Friday’s crucial Super League tie against Catalans Dragons.
Rush said: “It’s a shock to see any coach depart their club but it’s not really for me to worry about or comment on what’s happened at another club. I just have to worry about us and our game.
“Our week off gave the boys a chance to recharge their batteries - more mentally then physically - and prepare for a massive game against Catalans.
“It’s all about the battle for third place this Friday. If we win, we go level on points with Catalans and if they win they will open up a four-point gap over us. It’s a huge game for both clubs.”
Rush, who revealed that winger Ade Gardner has now returned to training, said Saints would need to produce their “best display of the season” to come home with the two points.
But, despite predicted daytime temperatures of 30 degrees-plus in Perpignan this week, he said he didn’t think the heat would be too much of an issue because of the late kick-off time.
Rush added: “Hopefully we won’t be playing in ridiculous temperatures. If we were kicking-off at 2pm then it would be more of an issue, but I don’t see it being too much of a problem.”
