Roby wary of Salford threat

JAMES Roby has warned his teammates they must be on top form to see off the challenge of a resurgent Salford.

The hooker - the only St Helens player to line-up for England against the Exiles in the Origin series last weekend - is refreshed and raring get back to Super League action.

St Helens face Salford tonight at the City of Salford Community Stadium.

And Roby believes a Salford side which boasts in-form ex-St Helens ace Matty Smith will present a serious challenge.

“Salford have been playing well,” said Roby. “I’ve watched quite a bit of what they’re doing and they seem to be attacking really well.

“Recently they’ve leaked a few points but every team goes through spells like that now and again.

“We’re definitely aware of the task ahead of us. We played them earlier this year at Langtree Park and that was a really tough game.

“I specifically remember thinking in the first half that we didn’t realise how tough this Salford side was going to be.

“With the calibre of players they’ve got and the quality in their side, on their day they can beat anyone in the league.”

Salford boost a wealth of inside knowledge on St Helens in the form of Saints legend Sean Long and Phil Veivers, the Red Devils’ assistant and head coach.

Roby added: “Obviously I played with Longy at St Helens and he’s a character within the game and has a great brain for rugby league.

“He sorts out of the attack out so I believes and it’s obviously rubbing off because they attack fantastically.”
