Gaskell told to keep on grafting

LEE Gaskell has been told he must keep working hard if he is to win a permanent first team spot.

Acting first team coach Mike Rush was able to give 21-year-old Gaskell much-needed game time at senior level during Saints comfortable win over Salford.

Gaskell came on as a substitute and responded with some good kicking skills and also landed three late goals.

But the Saints’ boss warned that the stand off needed to keep working hard to regain a permanent first team spot.

“People sometimes forget that when you are on the outer you need to work harder than those on the inner because they hold the jersey and unless they have an absolute stinker or suffer injury it is not easy to dislodged them, especially when you are winning,’’ said Rush.

“I have had Lee under my wings since he was 11 years old and wouldn’t have recommended the club to sign him if I felt he wouldn’t make the grade but people must remember he is still young and on a learning curve.”
