St Helens fifth round Challenge Cup tie against Oldham has been switched to Langtree Park

SAINTS fifth round Carnegie Challenge Cup tie against Oldham has been switched to Langtree Park.

The Championship One club were drawn at home but have been forced to reverse the fixture because their tiny Whitebank ground is not suitable for staging big games.

The tie will be played at St Helens on Friday, April 27, with an 8pm kick-off.

The Roughyeds say the cost of admission will be lower than normal Super League prices and anyone buying a ticket in advance from Oldham will get free coach travel.

Chairman Chris Hamilton said: “We hope our supporters understand that we are not allowed to play at Whitebank and that St Helens have been very good in working with us to maximise the occasion for the benefit of our club.

“It is a big opportunity for Oldham to get money into the coffers and in the current economic climate it is an opportunity we have to maximise, as every other club would given the chance.

“By pricing the game as we have done and providing free transport for anyone who buys a ticket from us we are doing our best to offset any inconvenience caused by playing a home game at St Helens.”

Featherstone’s home tie against holders Wigan will also be played on Friday, April 27, and will be broadcast live from the Bigfellas Stadium on Sky Sports.

The all-Super League tie between Warrington and Bradford at the Halliwell Jones Stadium will be shown live by BBC1 on Saturday, April 28, with a 2.40pm kick-off.
