Challenge Cup tie may be switched to home draw

ST Helens’ fifth round draw against Oldham could be moved to Langtree Park.

Oldham are considering switching their plum home tie on April 29 because they must seek an alternative venue because their tiny Whitebank ground is not suitable for hosting a major game.

Oldham chief executive Chris Hamilton said: “One of the RFL’s conditions in allowing us to play at Whitebank was that we would have to move any home tie against Super League opposition in the Challenge Cup to another ground.

“That applies until we have improved the facilities. The possibility of playing at Langtree Park is one of the things we’re discussing.”

Oldham coach Tony Benson said: “It’s a fabulous draw. The players will love taking on some of the sport’s biggest names and our club should get a decent cheque out of it.”
