Next season’s games between Saints and Hull FC are to be staged as tributes to inspirational former player Steve Prescott.
Both Super League matches will contest the inaugural Steve Prescott Cup, with the aggregate winner of both ties winning the trophy.
The first game will be held at Langtree Park on Friday, February 21.
Prescott’s sons Taylor and Koby will be mascots for the game and will take to the field through a guard of honour formed by past players.
His brother Neil will take the matchball on to the pitch.
Both teams will also be wearing special commemorative warm up sweatshirts supplied by ISC.
The Steve Prescott Foundation will hold a bucket collection too with the Club donating £5 from each PRESCOTT 1 shirt printing to the charity in the run up to the match.
General Manager of the Steve Prescott Foundation, Martin Blondel, said: “We would like to thank both clubs for dedicating the first prestigious home game of the season to Steve’s memory.
“It will be fantastic to see Saints fans wearing the Prescott 1 and raising funds for the SPF.
“It is quite clear that the intentions of St Helens and Hull FC will see Steve’s legacy will continue forever and there is no more fitting tribute than the Steve Prescott Cup”
Before the match, council chiefs will unveil the newly-renamed bridge linking the town centre and Langtree Park, which is being named in Prekkie’s honour.
