A FORMER Saints player who helped the club create history has died at the age of 78.

Hooker Len McIntyre was a member of the side which defeated Halifax 13-2 in the 1956 Challenge Cup final at Wembley – the first time the club had lifted the trophy.

Liverpudlian Len made 28 appearances for Saints, which also included the 1956 Lancashire Cup final against Oldham.

He also played for Barrow, Oldham, Wigan and Warrington, and appeared in a Test match against the touring Australians in 1963.
