JAMES Roby has been short-listed for this year’s prestigious Engage Super League Man of Steel award – the top individual honour in the sport.
The Saints hooker, who won the accolade in 2007, is joined in a three-horse race by Wigan’s Sam Tomkins and Castleford’s Rangi Chase, with the winner being crowned at a gala dinner in Manchester on Monday night.
Roby, (pictured), England’s first choice no.9, has once again led from the front in a St Helens’ team which defied massive injury problems to roar into the Super League play-offs.
Saints’ boss Royce Simmons said: “All three players deserve to be on the short-list, and have already made the Dream Team this season.
“They have been outstanding all year and will be difficult to split.”
Past St Helens winners include: George Nicholls (1978), Sean Long (2000), Paul Sculthorpe (2001-2002), Jamie Lyon (2005), Paul Wellens (2006), James Roby (2007) and James Graham (2008).
