TONY Puletua’s expected move to Salford City Reds on a two-year deal was confirmed last week - but not in the manner the players wanted.
Puletua, who joined Saints from Penrith Panthers and made his first team team debut against Warrintongton Wolves in February 2008, said on Twitter: “I want to apologise for the announcement coming out in the papers before I said anything. It’s not the way I wanted it to happen.
“To all the Saints fans, thank you so much for your support over the years here at this great club.
“It has been an honour! Onwards for 2013.”
Saints boss Nathan Brown said: “Tony has been a great servant and I know I speak for everyone at the club, as well as the fans in wishing him all the best for the future.”
Puletua, 34, will be joined at Salford by his current Antipodean team-mate, Francis Meli, who has accepted a 12-month contract with the Mancunian club.
