RAINHILL travelled to bottom club Northop Hall in this week’s Med Imaging Liverpool Competition first division game and eased to a 51 run win.
Rainhill elected to bat on the excellent wicket but with the top three back in the hutch with only 20 runs on the board, this decision may have been questioned but rare mid order revival followed.
Ford (39) and Harvey (62) led the fight back against Khan (6 for 57 from 17) and Rainhill finished on 197 all out in 48 overs.
Northop’s response was poor and it became evident why they were in a relegation place. Apart from Higgingson (35no), Khan (32) and Littler (22) no one had a plan against Qureshi (6 for 27 from 21) and they were all out for 146 in 42 overs.
Meanwhile, Rainhill seconds elected to bat and dominated the Wigan bowling attack. All batsmen got into double figures but none went onto make a huge score. Atkinson (69), Edmundson (33), Harvey (32), Tilley (35), Yate (33) and Gannon (20no) enjoyed the friendly bowling and rapid outfield. Their aggression allowed Rainhill to declare on 240 for 6 after 45 overs. Only Richardson (20), Ouwerkerk (14) and Evans (11) got into double figures as Wigan were bowled out for 75 in 22 overs. Atkinson (7 for 21 off 9).
