Winsford United 2-1 St Helens Town

It was a disappointing week for Town as they succumbed to consecutive away defeats in the league.

Strikers Edwards and Milne started brightly following the visit to Blackpool to play Squires Gate - but Town stopper Clark then conceded a soft penalty, which Hindle converted.

The visitors bounced back well but, less than 30 seconds after the restart, Town were opened up by a long ball over the top and McQuillan effectively ended the game as a contest. Bowen had a chance to reduce the arrears but his chipped effort was held by the home keeper and, to rub salt in the wounds, Harvie then squared for Fishwick to fire home.

Against Winsford Town were again made to pay for their wasteful finishing.

They actually took the lead when Cooper seized on a rebound and fired high into the roof of the net.

But Crompton soon latched onto a through ball to beat Clark in a one-on-one.

Then, just seconds before the break, sloppy defending exposed Clark and Brookes fired home with the aid of the right hand upright.
