Rainford kept up their challenge at the top end of the Med Imaging Liverpool Competition Division 1 with a hard fought three wicket victory at Formby.
The home side compiled a competitive 190 with John Dotters claiming 4 for 58 and Daron Cruickshank bagging 3 for 46.
Matt Bailey (22) and Mark Brook (54) gave Rainford a good start, although wickets fell steadily, Cruickshank (40) and Joe Noctor (28) kept up the pace for a 28 run eight wicket partnership between Dotters and JJ Williams to secure the win.
The seconds also enjoyed success at home to Leigh accompanied by the sights and sounds of the Village’s annual walking day. Skipper Andrew Harrison (5 for 43) and Chris Spencer (4 for 33) had the visitors in a spin as they were dismissed for 148. Jack Hemingway then returned to form with a fine innings of 69 not out as with the help of Chris Bell (24) and Tom Brimelow (37) Rainford won by seven wickets and were on the dodgems by 6 O’Clock.
On Sunday the Thirds lost by seven wickets to Northop Hall.
