The Under-14 St Helens girls’ side were invited to compete in the Chorley Festival Cup at Astley Park, Chorley, and came away with the honours.
Thatto Heath Under-18s boys’ team won the National cup and hours after, the victorious Saints Girls returned to Crusade Park with another trophy to add to the cabinet. The girls had four guests from Rochdale on their team but it was Saints’ Alisha Lea who opened the scoring early, with a quick scoot into the corner.
A hard game followed with tries being spread between Pip Birchall, Abby Housley, Emma Dobson, Beth Davies and Emily Hill. St Helens Girls gave a real show of character, with strong running and competing right up to the end.
The game concluded with 15 tries to 11 to the Saints Girls. The winner’s medals and trophy were presented by current Warrington Wolves prop forward Chris Hill.
