Stephen Bunting made it through to the last eight of the PDC World Championships at Alexandra Palace after defeating fellow St Helens darts ace Michael Smith.

The pair produced an entertaining display but it was Bunting who was always in control and he eventually went on to clinch a 4-2 victory in the late match at the Ally Pally.

Bunting will now face Raymond van Barneveld in the quarter-final after the Dutchman bounced back from Adrian Lewis’ early nine-darter to also win by a 4-2 scoreline.

St Helens has been significantly over-represented in the World Championship with Bunting, Smith and Dave Chisnall all featuring, prompting many to dub the town a darting Mecca.
