TWO of Saints’ young guns have put pen to paper on new deals with the club in recognition of the progress they have made this season.
Winger Tommy Makinson has signed a two-year contract, and back rower Scott Hale a 12-month deal.
“Both have made tremendous progress this year and I feel have real potential to establish themselves as Saints’ first team players of the future,” said coach Royce Simmons.
“They have already had more first-team opportunities than we had envisaged this season due to high number of injuries we have sustained, but they have grasped them well.
“I’m sure we will see more of them in the future.”
Makinson, who joined Saints from Wigan St Jude’s, made his senior debut from the bench against Salford City Reds at The Willows in February, and has already made 17 appearances, scoring nine tries and landing one goal.
Fellow 19-year-old Hale, who joined Saints from Haydock, has made two appearances off the bench against Huddersfield Giants at the Galpharm Stadium, and Featherstone Rovers in the fifth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.
Both players came through the highly successful club Academy system, which also unearthed current first-team squad members such as Paul Wellens, Jamie Foster, Paul Clough, Jonny Lomax, Lee Gaskell, and Kyle Eastmond.
