TEENAGE swimmer James Pout has been selected to compete for the England North team at the 2011 Sainsbury’s UK School Games in Sheffield.
The 14-year-old from St Helens will race against the best of the country’s school-age swimmers at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in September.
James said: “I feel very privileged and honoured to have been selected, and I am proud to represent the City of Liverpool Swimming Club, and my school, De La Salle High School of St Helens.
“I can’t wait to experience the Games atmosphere, compete well, and help the North of England team to win.”
Former Sainsbury’s UK School Games competitor and double Paralympic gold medal-winning swimmer, Ellie Simmonds, said: “James should be extremely proud of his selection to represent England North at the Sainsbury’s UK School Games.
“This country has a proud tradition of producing medal-winning swimmers and, as we look to develop the next generation of champions, it’s events like the UK School Games that will give James an indication of how he compares against the very best in his age-group.
“I competed at the very first UK School Games, and it is certainly a great opportunity for James to get a feel for what it’s like to compete at major events. Whilst he’ll be going all out to win a medal for England North, I’m sure James will benefit hugely from being around other young athletes at the venues and athlete’s village.”
