WEST Park matched their unbeaten semi-professional opponents for the first 35 minutes before conceding two converted tries just before the half-time whistle, after back-row Ryan Connolly went off injured.

And the score advanced to 27-0 after winger Lee Rosney was a second casualty with a head injury.

The visitors were 42-0 in arrears with 10 minutes remaining, but then the floodgates opened as Sale brought a resounding end to West Park’s unbeaten run of six games.

On the credit side, Liam Hill, playing at fly-half in the absence of Rob Hitchmough, gave an excellent performance.

Park now have two weeks off before opening the new year on January 7 at home to Warrington.

IN a hard-fought physical encounter in icy conditions, West Park’s second string matched their unbeaten opponents in every facet of the game.

Sale, using the catch-and-drive with great effect, found the Park defence unyielding, led by star man, prop Mike Birkett, and were restricted to a single penalty goal in the first half.

In the second half, Sale scored a converted try, but Park were largely in the ascendancy, although could not break the solid Sale defence.

l West Park Thirds beat Southport Thirds 15-14, while the Senior Colts were 48-34 winners over Tarleton.
