SAINTS’ head coach Royce Simmons is facing a king-sized selection headache ahead of Sunday’s tricky trip to Hull KR – and he will be delighted!
Skipper Paul Wellens, who missed the friendly against the Widnes Vikings and the opening Stobart Super League fixtures with London Broncos and Salford City Reds following close season surgery, is set to return and so, too, is winger Jamie Foster.
There is also a possibility that centre Michael Shenton, who underwent an operation on his shoulder after last season’s Grand Final, which led to further complications, will be declared fit.
Simmons has already declared his intention to rotate his squad this season – injuries permitting – and the Reporter understands this was the reason for prop Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook’s absence against Salford.
Mark Flanagan was suffering from a chest injury picked up at the Stoop, and remains a doubt.
Whatever team is selected faces a stern test at Craven Park, where Saints lost 24-22 in the corresponding fixture last year.
