THE St Helens Reporter’s Saints correspondent John Yates gives his Super League XXI forecast.
Saints’ boss Keiron Cunningham goes into the new season insisting his squad is the best balanced since he took charge at Langtree Park.
He has a couple of players able to slot into every position and others with a great deal of versatility, leaving him, in his own words, with a king-sized headache when it comes to team selection.
One of the keys to any success will be the half-back partnership of Travis Burns and Luke Walsh. Injuries restricted the pair from making the expected big impact last year but, if they are fighting fit, Saints could possibly make up for the disappointment of 2015 when they were beaten by Leeds in both the semi-final of the Challenge Cup and the play-off semi-final.
Top 8: Saints, Wigan, Catalans, 4 Leeds, Warrington, Hull FC, Huddersfield, Castleford.
