Winger Ade Gardner could be set for a return to Saints for the play-offs after Aussie full-back Shannon McDonell suffered a broken jaw against Warrington last week.
Head coach Nathan Brown admitted it was “highly unlikely” that McDonell would play for Saints again this season - saying he would be out for six weeks.
But he refused to rule out a return to the Saints fold for experienced winger Gardner who has been on loan at Hull KR all year.
Brown said: “Shannon has broken his jaw but doesn’t require surgery. He came here to play some games of rugby and was happy playing with Rochdale and then when he came in with us - whether it was for a contract here or a contract elsewhere. Playing was the key for him.
“Calling Ade Gardner back is a possibility. We’ll have to assess the state of our squad and see where Gards is at.
“We haven’t looked into it at the moment because his commitment is still with Hull KR but any time you’ve got a good, experienced player out on loan and you’re coming into finals footie, they are always things that are options.”
