LEE Gaskell has made a positive impact after moving to Salford City Reds on loan until the end of the season, scoring one try in the shock 21-20 home victory over Huddersfield Giants on Good Friday and crossing the whitewash in the 36-24 defeat at Bradford three days later.
Saints’ boss Nathan Brown said: “At this stage of his career, Lee needs to be playing more regularly and with chances limited here at present, it make sense for him to go out on loan. We will be looking forward to watching him develop and I’m sure he will do a good job at Salford.
In the meantime, hooker Stuart Howarth has moved in the opposite direction - impressing in his opening two games against Wigan Warriors and Castleford Tigers.
Brown said: “Stuart has shown in his time at Salford that he is a capable and experienced player and will prove more than adequate cover for a multitude of postions.
“During the short time he has been here he has done some video work with coach Keiron Cunningham and we have already seen an improvement.
“His effort and commitment can’t be questioned and his skill factor will also improve in due course”
n FORMER Saints director Arthur Thomas died at the weekend aged 69. Arthur also had spells as chairman at Wigan and Leigh.
RFL chief executive Nigel Wood said: “Rugby League and sport in general are poorer for his passing.”
