Saints fans have given a positive welcome to last night’s season opening victory, with Theo Fages being touted as man of the match.
We asked fans on our Facebook page for their reaction to the 6-4 win at the Totally Wicked Stadium and to name who they thought was the stand-off performer.
And the France scrum-half was clear winner among our readers, while most supporters were relatively happy with the way Keiron Cunningham’s squad overcome a half-time deficient to run away eventual winners.
Dawn Polak wrote: “Hard fought win, great defence need to cut out the stupid penalties and errors!
“Theo outstanding and that tackle from Tommy was absolutely top drawer.”
Johnny Wright posted: “Very tough and much needed game, don’t like to comment on referees but tonight he was awful. Great defences on show. Well done Saints.”
Julian Daniel was amongn the many fans who highlighted the referee’s performance.
He posted: “Usual very weak performance from this referee proving the quality of officials is dubious to say the least.
“Very strange blind spots by choice or accident? Strangely it kept the game alive for both sets of fans but that in no way suggests it was a balanced performance, far from it. Fans bewildered at times. Yes it was Bentham!”
Mark Bradshaw added: “A win is a win. You don’t want to be the best at the start very happy with things.”
Kayley Smith was a lone, disapproving voice,.
She simply wrote: “BOOOORRRIIINNNGGG.”
Ian Smith added: “They won!”
And James Thomas added: “Referee was rubbish but made up Saints won.”
