St Helens is built on two sandstones - the denser coal bearing yellow and the later much looser red sandstone.
Sandstone is very porous and is an excellent aquifer, holding clean water for our use. I don’t care what the interested businesses claim. Very simply, fracking involves pumping chemicals into this clean water thereby contaminating it and fracturing the rock upon which the town is built.
The Government cut our budget by £40m and has the gall to try to bribe us into accepting the destruction of our environment.
I am very strongly against fracking in this area. Let them try it in the Home Counties instead.
