A GRATEFUL council worker has donated a cheque for more than £500 to the medical team which helped her mum battle cancer - courtesy of a little help from her friends.

Andrea Duncan, a senior admin assistant, was so impressed with the treatment that her mum, Sheila Jackson, received at St Helens Hospital’s Lilac Centre that she organised a sponsored “wear it lilac” day at her work.

And staff at St Helens Council’s Atlas House were more than happy to join in, not just with the fancy dress initiative, but also a cake sale and a 70s icons scratchcard quiz.

Andrea’s two-year-old daughter, Heidi, also helped to boost the fundraising total – with classmates and staff at Four Ways Nursery also joining in the “wear it lilac” day.

Andrea said: “My mum received some wonderful care when she was being treated at the Lilac Centre so I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone there.

“I’d also like to thank everyone at Atlas House who helped to raise the money and my family and friends who kindly donated.”
