Warning over discoloured water

WATER company bosses say work to clean pipes in St Helens could lead to slightly discoloured water.

United Utilities started the cleaning work on Monday (April 23) and expect it to continue until May 18.

But, although the water may become slightly discoloured, bosses insist it is still safe to drink.

The discolouration sometimes occurs due to air left in the water after the cleaning process - but it should clear. Sometimes the water may also have particles in it which are natural deposits within mains water pipes, which have been disturbed.

But United Utilities warn that if water is discoloured then you should NOT wash any clothes, operate a dishwasher or use an electrically powered shower.
