TWELVE-year-old Tom Littler is gearing up for the trip of a lifetime as he is set to represent the UK team at the Junior Medtronic Cup tournament in Switzerland.
Billinge-based Tom, a pupil at Upholland High School, initially registered for the competition which is open to diabetes sufferers.
He was lucky enough to secure a trial at Wembley Stadium, and despite some intense competition there, the FA selectors chose Tom for the final squad.
His delighted mum Carol said: “Tom’s so excited. When we were told he was in the squad for Switzerland we could hardly believe it.
“It’s going to be a great competition, and an experience Tom will never forget.”
The UK team will pit their wits in a tournament that is set to feature 12 nations in all, with all matches in Lausanne taking place between August 24-26.
Striker Tom has always been crazy about football, and currently plays for Highfield Grange JFC.
