Police say he was crossing the road with another man when he was in collision with a car, believed to be a dark coloured Ford. The second man managed to get out of the way and was uninjured.

Robert Taylor, 20, from Bickershaw Lane, in Bickershaw, and 18-year-old Abbey-Lee Liptrot from Belvoir Street, Scholes, were arrested and have been charged with Section 18 wounding and attempted Section 18 wounding.

Both were kept in custody before appearing at Sefton Magistrates Court on Thursday.

They have since been released on conditional bail and will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on March 3.

The victim is thought to be making a steady recovery and posted on Facebook: “Thank you to everyone for all the lovely messages. I have a nasty cut on head, a dislocated shoulder, four broken ribs and a few issues with my liver.
