A St Helens sportswoman has been ranked inside the top 40 athletes in a worldwide competition.

Fran Calvert (above), of Rainford, came 31st out of 9,000 female athletes in the Reebok Crossfit Games in Copenhagan, and was the fourth best out of the six UK entrants.

The event saw sportswomen from all over Europe and Africa take part in a wide field of fitness, including gymnastics, weight lifting, running and rowing.

The 22-year-old, who is a Level 2 Crossfit Trainer, coaching at her Affiliate gym, Crossfit Faction, in Widnes, said: “I don’t think I will get to the final stage in America as they are the best in the world. I was honoured to have got through as I have only been training for two years.”

Fran’s next big challenge will be aiming to beat her score in the Battle of the Beasts in October, as she came third last year.
